proudly serving the LAWRENCE, KS AREA since 1978

From cracked and spalling brick to damaged fireboxes and flues, we repair the problems inspections uncover.

Kansas winters are hard on masonry. Water soaks into brick and mortar, freezes, and expands — a cycle called spalling that cracks, flakes, and eventually crumbles the surface of your chimney. It's most common from the roofline up, and it gets worse each winter it's left untreated. The good news: caught early, most spalling and related damage is very treatable.

Repairs We Provide

  • Clear sealant application to stop water from soaking into sound brick
  • Mortar joint repair (tuckpointing) for cracked or crumbling joints
  • Spalled brick and stone repair or replacement
  • Firebox, smoke chamber, and flue repair
  • Hearth repair
  • Partial or full masonry rebuilds when damage is too advanced for sealant or spot repair (see Masonry Rebuilds)

Signs You May Need This Service

  • Bricks or stone that are cracking, flaking, or spalling off the face of the chimney
  • Crumbling or missing mortar between joints
  • White, powdery staining (efflorescence) on the masonry
  • Water stains on the ceiling or walls near the chimney
  • Rust, gaps, or visible damage around the firebox or flue

The 21st Century Chimney Sweep Approach

We start with an inspection and recommend the least invasive fix that actually solves the problem for the long term — a proper cap and sealant where that's enough, a full rebuild where it's genuinely needed. Spalling is easily preventable once the source of water intrusion is addressed, and we'll walk you through exactly why the damage happened so it doesn't come back.
