When spalling, cracking, or structural movement has compromised the brick or block itself — most often in the section from the roofline up — a rebuild is the only repair that lasts. What a Rebuild Involves
- A detailed inspection to determine exactly how much of the chimney needs rebuilding — often just the portion above the roofline, not the entire structure
- Removal of deteriorated brick, block, or stone
- Rebuilding with matching materials, tied properly into the sound masonry below
- Installation of a proper crown, cap, and waterproofing as part of the rebuild, so the same damage doesn't recur
When a Rebuild Is Necessary
- Widespread spalling or crumbling brick, rather than isolated spots
- Visible leaning, bulging, or structural movement in the chimney
- Extensive mortar loss that tuckpointing alone can't address
- A previous inspection identified damage beyond the scope of repair
